Adventures and activities in Cornwall

Activities in Cornwall cater to all ages and persuasions. From coast to countryside, from village to town, there are new experiences and old favourites around every corner.

Many of the most popular activities are classic country pursuits, unsurprising perhaps for a region where the heartbeat of the land still rings strong. As a valued guest of The Nare, traditional pastimes can be enjoyed through bespoke outings arranged by the hotel team. Who knows? A new hobby may be discovered alongside a collection of happy memories.

For additional activities or excursions, The Nare would be delighted to curate the perfect morning, afternoon or day out. Please speak to the concierge.

Sea fishing

Cornwall's fishing industry has a long history, and fishing remains a keystone of the Cornish economy to this day. The region, after all, is blessed with some 600 miles of coastline and famously fertile seas. Sea fishing as a hobby, however, is a world away from the pace and pressure of the modern commercial industry. It is a gently thrilling, delightfully outdoorsy pursuit: just a rod, the waves, and the anticipation of a battle and a bite.

Arrange a sea fishing trip

The Nare can arrange two-hour mackerel fishing trips, as well as half- and full-day charters. Setting sail from St Mawes Harbour, join friendly local skipper James Brown on board his traditional fishing boat, Madeline Rose. All equipment is provided, so that the focus is solely on enjoying this classic Cornish activity in classic Cornwall style.

Sea kayaking

Here on Cornwall's South Coast, the waves roll to a gentle tempo, quite unlike the choppy, surfer-friendly seas to the north. That makes these waters ideal for mellower water sports, such as sea kayaking. This pastime involves taking to the waves in a specially designed, seaworthy kayak with a double-bladed paddle in hand. It is a serene, meditative and surprisingly comfortable experience that provides a unique perspective on Cornwall's wild, cliff-fringed coast.

Try sea kayaking at The Nare

As a guest of The Nare, the joys of sea kayaking can be discovered right on the doorstep. The hotel is perched above Carne Beach, a long stretch of golden sand whose gentle waves make it ideal for leisurely pursuits on the water. Kayaks are available for guests, along with life jackets in a range of sizes. Please enquire at reception for further details.

Shooting

Shooting remains a popular activity in Cornwall, from the family-friendly adventure of clay pigeon shooting to the thrill and reward of a real hunt. Set within the rolling, unspoilt countryside of the Roseland Peninsula, The Nare is situated close to some of the best shooting in Cornwall. Whether a keen shooter or a total beginner, participants will find bespoke shoots both exciting and a wonderful excuse to explore the great outdoors.

Arrange a bespoke shoot with The Nare

Toby Ashworth, proprietor of The Nare, has excellent contacts, a good local knowledge and considerable experience in arranging successful shoots. During shooting season, the Nare can set up bespoke days for a shooting party and ensure any specific requirements are met. Anyone is welcome to join in. However, not all members of the party need to shoot, as there is plenty for everyone to enjoy at the hotel. To arrange a shoot, please contact the hotel's reservations team. They will be pleased to put together a suitable programme.
